About me

Hey, I’m Joel Franquiz! I’m a senior at Appalachian State University studying Fine Art Photography. Lately, I’ve been working in sports photography, which has been such a fun challenge. Since August 2023, I’ve been part of the Appalachian State Athletics Creative Team, capturing all the action and energy of our teams.

Outside of sports, my art gets a bit experimental. I love exploring my heritage and identity through different techniques and styles. One of my favorite things I’ve been working on is photopolymer gravure, a printmaking process where I mix photography with etching. It’s a cool way to bring textures and surreal vibes into my work—plus, it gives me a chance to get my hands dirty and try something outside the usual digital editing.

When I’m not creating, I’m usually watching random YouTube videos, hanging out with friends, or going for a run. Running has actually been a huge inspiration for my art lately!

I’m all about capturing the big moments and the small, weird ones too. Whether it’s through sports photography or more personal projects, I love telling stories in my own way. If you want to chat about art, photography, or anything in between, hit me up!
